If you are a supervisor or a human resources professional, perhaps you have considered personality tests as a means to help employees appreciate different working styles, resolve conflicts, improve communications, or even elevate performance outcomes.
By understanding different personality types, employees can understand characteristics, traits, and and motivations of difference types of people. In today's world, it has never been more important to bridge understanding, appreciate differences, and collaborate in a productive way.
Here are some tips in planning a workshop:
1. Think about what you are trying to accomplish.
2. Choose an assessment or test to meet your goals.
The Myers-Briggs Indicator - This test will help determine preferences in perceptions and decision-making. It drills down into 16 personality types against 4 key categories: introversion or extraversion, sensing or intuition, thinking or feeling, judging or perceiving.
The Enneagram - The Enneagram will help employees understand individual differences in approach, style, and motivations. The Enneagram Institute identifies 9 personality types as follows: The Reformer, The Helper, The Achiever, The Individualist, The Investigator, The Loyalist, The Enthusiast, The Challenger and the Peacemaker.
Aperture Advisory Associates offers an assessment and overview in our Shop for $15.
3. Determine the best format for the workshop.
Description of workshop, goals, and objectives
How to communicate the plan with employees
Duration of workshop or each session
On-site or off-site or remote
Number of employees in each session
Outline the format and plan for the workshop
4. Contact companies that specialize in training sessions.
Ensure they know how to do assessments
Check track record with nonprofits and private schools
Discuss their recommended plan for the session or sessions
Review the fees and the range of services offered
Book and Pay Online for Sessions: individual and group sessions.
5. Define ways you will measure success.
Will you do a survey following the workshop?
Will you change performance evaluations?
Will you conduct personal sessions with employees?
Will you ask department heads to report back on key metrics?
